KENYA HELD THE FIRST-EVER ALL-FEMALE MOTOR RALLY

Kenya made news by organising the first all women’s rally.

The Lioness Rally was held on March 27th in Nairobi at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani Rallying Track. It brought together 8 all-female crews, from professional to amateurs, but also women in all positions, such as marshals enabling the event to take place safely.

Maxine Wahome and navigator Safina Khantook took the victory ahead of Natasha Tundo.

The event, supporting by Amina Mohamed, Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage in Kenya and member of the FIA World Motor Sport Council, contributes to raising interest and visibility for women in motor sport. After the successful return of the Safari World Rally Championship last year in Naivasha, this first successful event confirms the return of Africa to the forefront of motor sport.

Mr Phineas Kimathi -KMSF President’s, said: “The Lionesses have made history today! They did go on and made it crystal to their male counterparts that they too can roll their sleeves, gear up and tackle some twist and turns. Hongera to the Lionesses club, we will continue supporting you.”
