Yokohama Rubber Announced as Official Tyre Partner to Extreme H

Extreme H, the world’s first hydrogen motorsport, has announced a landmark partnership with The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., confirming the Japanese manufacturer as the Official Tyre Partner ahead of the series’ inaugural event in Saudi Arabia next month.

The deal will see Yokohama supply a prototype tyre based on its acclaimed GEOLANDAR X-AT all-terrain range. Specially engineered to endure the punishing demands of heavy hydrogen-powered and electric off-road vehicles, the tyre is built with enhanced durability for extreme environments and incorporates 38% renewable and recycled raw materials—a milestone in sustainable motorsport engineering.

Extreme H represents the natural evolution of the award-winning Extreme E Championship, and this collaboration underscores the series’ mission to drive innovation, performance, and sustainability at the highest level.

Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme H, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Yokohama to the Extreme H family. As we break new ground in hydrogen motorsport, having a tyre partner with a proven track record of high performance and sustainability is critical. Yokohama’s innovation and global reputation make them an ideal collaborator as we push the boundaries of what’s possible – both on and off the track.”

Takayoshi Omae, Associate Officer, Acting Head of Consumer Tire Product & Marketing Planning Division of Yokohama Rubber, added:
“We are honored to partner with Extreme H at this landmark moment in motorsport history. For this world’s first hydrogen racing event, we will supply a prototype of our GEOLANDAR X-AT, featuring renewable and recycled raw materials. We see participation in Extreme H as part of our efforts to maximize the sales ratio of high-value-added products in our consumer tire lineup and to contribute to the realization of a more sustainable world through our cutting-edge technologies and high-performance products.”

The partnership builds on Yokohama’s rich motorsport legacy, bringing together advanced tyre technology and an ambitious sustainability agenda. With the FIA Extreme H World Cup set to launch later in 2025, the collaboration marks a significant step towards realizing zero-emission, high-impact racing.

Extreme H aims to act as a global testbed for hydrogen innovation, inspiring broader adoption across mobility, energy, and transportation sectors. Official dates and venues for the first FIA Extreme H World Cup will be announced shortly.
