Aashi Hanspal First Indian to Represent India in FIA Girls on Track

Aashi Hanspal is a 13 years old,

Grade-9 student at Bombay Scottish School- Mahim, Mumbai. She has been actively training for about 2 years now – with Rayo Racing Academy at the Ajmera’s Indikarting Circuit, Mumbai. Her coaches are Saurav Bandyopadhyay and Steve Hodges – ace kart drivers and car racer themselves while her mentor is Rayomand Banajee – an eight times National Karting & Car Racing Champion & a well-known personality in the world of motorsports. 

Apart from cars, she love music, dancing, travelling & socializing. She is a qualified Kathak Dancer and regularly performer at school/inter-school level. Her family, teachers and close friends are her biggest sources of support & strength on her mission to prove that girls can feature at the highest levels of motorsport – including F1 – yes – you read that right – F1 – that’s where she wanna be. 

Key Achievements

She stared in her debut racing season at the National Championship – 2019, and won her first career podium at the 2nd Round of JK Tyre FMSCI National Karting Championship, held at the Chicane Circuit in Hyderabad on 17th Nov 2019. Her career podium finishes are as follows:-

In recognition of her achievements, the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of India (FMSCI) conferred her with the prestigious “Outstanding Women in Motorsports- 2019” award on 29-02-2020, at FMSCI’s annual award function in New Delhi, in the presence of Chief Guest Mr. Kiren Rijiju – the Honorable Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports.

In June 2020, she got selected by the world motorsports governing body FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) to participate in the “FIA Girls on Track – Rising Stars” – an initiative, in partnership with racing super brands like Scuderia Ferrari and Pirelli. Being selected amongst the top 20 girls in the world (the only Indian) for the shootouts at Paul Ricard Circuit, in France on 12-13th Oct.2020, was a great opportunity for her to compete at the global levels. The ‘Rising Stars’ program is a platform providing real chance for talented young women drivers aged between 12 & 16 years to career up to the global levels by developing a strong pathway in the world of car racing. The Jury of the FIA-WIM (Governing body for Women in Motorsports, globally) named her the ‘Most Deserving & Impressive New Driver’. The Jury also awarded a special prize – all weekend paddock passes for one of the rounds of ‘Formula 1 World Championship’ of her choice in 2021. Her best reward has been the special appreciation in a personalized letter from the FIAWIM Chairperson- Ms. Michele Mouton for showing highest improvement, fairness and fighting spirit in the ‘GOT Rising Stars’ program.
