All eyes will be on Coimbatore coming weekend when the Third Round of the MRF MOGRIP FMSCI National Rally Championship for two-wheelers takes place in the motorsport-loving city. The MRF 2W Rally of Coimbatore, organised by Coimbatore Auto Sports Club (CASC), promoted by Godspeed (Pune) and sponsored by MRF, TVS, Castrol and PSG Hospitals will be conducted on 17th July at Kethanur near Palladam in a mix of dirt and gravel Special Stages. Participants from all over India will be taking part in this event.
Mr.Deepan, Coimbatore District Manager, MRF Limited, flagged off the the event at 17.30hrs on Saturday, 16th July from Sennammal Kovil Mandapam, Kethanur, Palladam .
Coimbatore, as some may be aware, has a rich motorsport tradition. The CASC have been pioneers in organising top-notch events for over five decades, thus carving a niche for itself in Indian motorsport.
“This year we have a overwhelming response from competitors with a record 102 entries,” said Mr. J. Prithiviraj, Honorary Secretary of CASC. “Event sponsors MRF have contributed tremendously towards the development of motorsport in the country, and the CASC thanks them for their continued support,” he added.
The total distance of the route is approximately 80.22 kms with the total distance of the Special Stages 67.00 kms. This time around, unlike last year, there will be two Special Stages – the Black Thunder Stage (19.65 kms) and the Thunder World Stage (14.75 kms) run twice in the same direction.
The stages are set inside the private wind farms near Kethanur (Palladam) area, and it promises to be a treat to watch. A service Park is established near Kethanur for the competitors to service and refuel their vehicles.
74 riders are participating across nine classes that form the National championship – Super Bike (Pro Expert, Group A), Super Bike ( Expert Group A), Super Sport 130 Group B, Super Sport 165 Group B, Super Sport 260 Group B, Super Sport 400 Group B, Super Sport 550 Group B and Scooter 210 Group B and Ladies Class Group B. There is also the Super Sport 550 Group D which has attracted 14 entries and Star of Tamil Nadu category exclusively for riders from Tamil Nadu, which attracted 13 contestants.
A wide range of imported and domestic motorcycles will be seen in action.
The event will start from Service Park (Kethanur) at 0900 am on Sunday 17th July 2022 and will finish at about 1400hrs. The prize distribution ceremony will be conducted at the same venue at 1630hrs.
Safety is paramount in the event and accordingly medical precautions and facilities have been put in place. Trauma care Ambulances from PSG Hospitals are in place at the start of each stage to take care of any emergencies.
